This post is going to be primarily useful for web publishers, webmasters and media buyers alike, because it’s going to shed some light on what works when people sell traffic to PlugRush’s advertisers.
What affiliate marketers want
Advertisers are looking for display formats
What are our advertisers looking for right now? Literally as I type this, our advertisers are mostly looking to buy traffic in the following ad formats:
- Native ads
- Banners (especially 300×250 and 300×100 for mobile; 300×250, 728×90 and 468×60 for desktop)
- Push notifications
Supply cannot keep up with demand
In most cases, there isn’t enough to go around to all affiliate marketers buying traffic in our network. Demand outweighs supply in our network at the moment. You could be part of the solution!
If you’re a website owner with some traffic to send, you can really capitalize on the current situation. Can you help us improve coverage on the digital advertising formats listed above? If so, we’d absolutely love to have you sending traffic into our network!
Traffic from display ads is king
Without further ado, let’s dive right in and get down to the nitty gritty. While advertising continues to evolve, new ad types are developed, and marketing approaches change, one thing has remained true throughout all of 2021 so far: There will never be enough display ad traffic.
While we might manage to fully meet the demands of our ad buyers on pops for certain targeting selections, we don’t see this regularly on any of the display formats. Push notifications, native ads and banners are in high demand.
It’s like the more traffic we manage to get flowing into our network from our web publishers websites, the thirstier our advertisers get for more! We’re so thankful for all of the hardworking webmasters that choose to send their traffic to PlugRush. But, at the same time, we have to ask for more.
One prerequisite to use our display ads
In this post, we’re going to give you a blueprint on how to be most successful, when selling traffic into PlugRush’s ad network. First, you need to know which formats your primary focus needs to be on.
The only requirement to use the following ad formats: You’ve added our Main Ad Code on your site to make it possible for our ads to function on it.
The top ad formats to focus on
Native ads
When we started PlugRush back in 2007, native ads weren’t a thing. The advertising space was dominated by ad formats clearly apparent as such (f.ex. banner ads). It worked, but innovation took things to the next level.
When we developed what we called plugs (hence the network’s name PlugRush) and what later became known as native ads, we knew we were onto something big early on. However, we had no idea native advertising would grow to its current size.
At PlugRush, we offer two types of native ads. You can place regular native adzones into a spot on your website’s layout and the native adzone will adjust responsively to fill that area of your site with native ads (small ad images with titles). You can create native adzones of this sort any time to utilize them in all sorts of spots on your websites.
The other version, what we call Real Native Ads, is primarily revolutionary for tube sites and the like. When toggled on for a site in the websites overview of your PlugRush account, it auto-inserts native ads into the content area of your site. It even takes on the look of your other content.
Got a tube site or similar? Try out Real Native Ads! If you don’t like the result, disabling Real Native Ads is just one more click of a toggle away on the websites overview in your PlugRush account.
Banners
Seemingly they’ve been around since the beginning of time. And with good reason! Banner ads are wonderful display ad units for affiliate marketers to get their message across in a precise way. Using an ad format that is recognized as such by end users is invaluable.
With banner ads, there is no potential for your websites visitors to feel like you’re misleading them in any way. When someone sees a banner ad, they know they’re being exposed to advertising. This helps immensely to create a great user experience on your website.
Meanwhile, you’ll be making money off of highly-coveted ad units, because affiliate marketers are willing to pay a lot for targeted banner clicks. Advertisers love this honest format to get their message across and you’re going to love the earnings it generates.
To get the most out of using PlugRush’s banners on your websites, stick to the following banner formats:
- 300×250 and 300×100 banners on the mobile versions of your sites.
- 300×250, 728×90 and 468×60 banners on the desktop versions of your sites.
With the PlugRush Main Ad Code implemented on your site, you can create banner adzones and place them in minutes.
Push notifications
Advertisers adore push notification ads for the reach they offer at a personal level. They afford them the ability to reach end users when they aren’t even visiting a website. As a result, they’re a very popular format in the dating and finance verticals. And they come with a premium price tag.
At PlugRush, we don’t just pay you for push subscribers generated, but rather all of the clicks they generate over the lifetime of their push subscription. Due to our conservative approach on how many ads we send to each push subscriber per day, they stay active longer. We take great care to place a heavy focus on push subscriber retention, so you can get the most out of the push subscribers you collect.
To enable push subscriber collection on your site, just click the toggle under the “PushAds” column of your websites overview. We’ll take care of the rest! For more details about push, please read PlugRush’s push notification ads guide for web publishers.
Honorable mention: Inpage push notifications
When it comes to online advertising, innovation never stops. With the huge success of push notifications, we wanted to provide the website owners in our network with something that comes close to the user experience of a push notification, while the visitor is still browsing your website.
Inpage push notifications look like regular push notifications, but they’re an on-site ad format and get displayed when a visitor is actually browsing through your site. Give them a go, because on a lot of websites we already see them outperforming banners. You can toggle them on under “PushAds” in the websites overview of your PlugRush account. We expect this format to continue seeing heavy growth in the short- and long-term.
